I used everything I had learnt over a week or so of playing. ALL THE ARMIES!!!!!!!!!ġ Army is on snake defence, one is on south conquer, one is on portals. nfi how it goes up, some 'bastion' threat meter that goes up. Ok, I think I get that each race has a mechanic, cool, I have a compass that i pick based on bonuses. Holy crap Demons at my snake gate and brothers that I said "no" to are coming up from he south, army dead turn 20. Follow the quests as if they are guides and read ALLL THE ! MILLINO POPUPS AT THE START OF EVERY TURN. after realising that I had made many wrong decisions around the turn 40 mark, best so far I think. She also got a huge head start on some population/area control mechanic that I had no idea about. Second Go, made a lot of progress, planned to eliminate that frost ****. First go I got Surrounded and felt beaten fast. I tried the faction that I had some familiarity form the prologue, tried the bloke. Oh ****, Maybe this demon guy was more than I bargained for. from 3 angles with 1 and a half armies and the portals opened up. I felt powerful but not overpowered, I was trying to use my gaming brain to strategically build a themed army that works together with no knowledge of the units. I worked up and down bouncing between settlements. I thought I started good, I was working a coast line if memory serves, took over some stuff, and then I started getting attacked on all sides. I specifically have done no research while typing this to show my raw thoughts and knowledge. I picked the demon bloke that can use all the demons. I have lands to conquer and I'm confident I have the basics down. I finish the prologue, I have armies to build. I am controlling huge armies strategically and in real time (with pausing, ty) this is everything I never new an RTS should be. I'm moving pieces around like a chess board and then. I'm managing an economy and building armies.
Jump in head first, the best way to enter a brick wall imo. AOE4 let me down and being on Game Pass I thought "F**k it, lets give this baby a ride". but didn't understand how the seemingly 2 separate game modes where played at the same time.
Thought it was "too strategy" and not enough combat for my younger brain. Saw Angry Joe review a few old ones and was confused at the global map/battle thing. Can't invest the time/effort/money and I cant find people for Catan or Bloodrage so table top army games isn't gonna happen. Must say, generally align or respect the opinions people like of Angry Joe and TotalBiscuit (R.I.P) What I'm trying to say is I'm diverse but have never been the best, though I strive for a solid above average and generally succeed. I have always liked RTS but am the kind of player that can't play online because I get dominated by the sweaty kids, loved ye old Age of empires, KKND Crossfire etc.AOE4 is a let-down, HARD. I LOVE RPG's, Zelda, Fable and recently Dark souls. I like MMORPG but I have quit wow 3 times now and don't think ill ever try another. I like shooters, but my KD is never 2.0 for longer than a match.
